So, today has been just a little bit busy. We got up early and checked out a piece of furniture from craigslist. We are now the proud owners of a beautiful, reasonably-priced glider rocker. And boy, is it comfy! Now, all we have to do is make room for it! Hmmm, I think I got the order of things a little backwards.
And, after my best friend came over for (decaf) coffee, we headed to the Del Mar San Diego Fair. We got there before noon, and already they were directing people into the overflow parking. Hmmm, crowds. So here we are, trying to navigate the people and the cars as we walk out of the lot, when a stupid flag rope blows in front of me right as I’m stepping down. I didn’t realize it had a loop in the end. And that the loop had managed to wrap around my foot. The traffic director had stopped the cars so we could get across the row. So we’re trying to hurry, this thing blows right in front of my foot, I had some momentum going, nothing to grab onto, and BOOM. Down I went.
I reached out my right hand to break my fall. Somehow I spun as I went down, and landed on my butt and back. Tweaked my wrist a little, scraped my elbow, and broke a small blood vessel in the palm of my hand. Oh, and did I mention that my pride went right out the window, too? Yeah, about .02 seconds into the fall.
So, J and Sue help me up, dust me off, and make sure I’m okay. I am, but I’m practically in tears, too. I feel stupid, and I hurt. I was almost ready to turn back around and go home at that point, even though we had just paid (an outrageous) $9 to park.
But, we didn’t, and we had a pretty good time. We wandered around the woodworking and photography exhibits, ate our way around the fair, and generally had a good time. At one point, we went by a booth with a bunch of cute baby stuff. I thought about what it would be cool to get and realized that if I had had my appointment yesterday, we’d know what to buy: boy or girl. Argh! The world conspires, I tell you.
During our wanderings I had to stop and rest a lot, yet it was still a low key, pleasant day. We didn’t buy a bunch of crap this time, because we didn’t go back through the hall with all the stuff for sale. About 5 hours later and we’re all tired and our feet are aching. So we stopped for take out on the way home and totally crashed on Sue’s couch.
My elbow hurts a little, and my right arm is a little weak in the shoulder, but I’m sure it’ll be fine in a day or two. I’m just glad I didn’t do a face-plant and hit my stomach. And even though I’ve been trying to be careful, stuff happens. I’ll just have to watch out even more and try not to be such a klutz. I’m tired. I think I’ll go to bed and nurse my wounds (and pride).
