Man: Yeah, Torino.

Woman: Where’s that?

Man: Italy.

from: overheard in new york. if you haven’t checked it out yet, you should.

the port problem

the problem i have with the port of new orleans being managed by an arab company doesn’t have to do with the fact it’s an arab company. what the hell are we doing turning port management over to any foreign-owned business?

(if i understand the situation correctly)

world’s biggest dork

okay. i’m the world’s biggest dork. no, really.

i went to use the ladies room. and, uh, i couldn’t um, pull down my pants. (i guess there’s just no delicate way to put that, huh?)

at first, i thought that my cell phone, clipped on my waist, had caught my shirt and was hanging me up. nope. so i yank. uh huh, another good choice.

my pants are a size too big. i haven’t had the time, or inclination, to go get them altered (because if i do, i will automatically gain back all the weight. see how that works?). so i safety pin them. yeah, now you know why i’m a dork.

i managed to safety-pin my pants to my shirt. my silk shirt. in addition to the pin holes it did have, it now has a couple of nice little rips where i YANKED MY PANTS BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS MY PHONE’S FAULT.

uh huh. this is gonna be a great day.

must not succomb…

i’m trying not to be sarcastic. i’m holding it back so much it’s going to make my head explode. i hate it when someone’s nasty to you and you can’t be nasty in return. i think it’s going to give me an aneurism. (did i spell that right? too lazy to check.)

used to be

i used to be a lot more personal on this site. talking about the drama in the my life with the ex, my other relationships, etc. but somehow along the way that stopped, and so did a lot of the traffic that i had.

i’m not sure what happened (with me). as i get more known irl and the line between online and offline blurs, i start getting uncomfortable. there are certain things that i CAN share here, and those that read will understand. those of you that blog, or read blogs all the time get it. get me and why i share.

those that don’t, well, i don’t want them reading this. i don’t want the people i know in one area (say, other hobbies) to come over here into this area. they don’t need to know that much about me. i compartmentalize. just like i don’t want people at work to know that much about me. so i try to keep my name off a little more than i used to.

and i’ve never talked much about work. but because the crossover on the net has grown so big, it’s easier for me to be found. and i don’t like that. i choose what i get to share about myself to people. not the other way around. people use information about you. if they just did it to learn more about me, that would be fine. but there’s always a catch – someone out there to use it against you. and that’s the part i don’t want, like, or need.

but i feel like a bit of my connection out there (to you all, to bloggers in general) has been lost, due to the fact i’m not anonymous anymore. you’d think the connection would be greater. but it’s tough sometimes, figuring out what to share and what not to share. especially when you’re not unknown on the web in other areas of your life (this may sound like i’m trying to say i’m bigger than i am in the blogging world. that’s not it. i am pretty well known in one of my hobbies; but that’s what happens when you are a minority, you stick out sometimes. and that’s where i don’t want things to cross over. from there to here. i let people in when i let them in, not when they force their way in).

misadventures

“becky, we have an emergency”

“what?”

“there is a huge bug in our house. can you come get it?”

laughter. “you want me to what?”

“it’s huge – as big as one of my fingers and it jumps around like a grasshopper!”

more laughter. “seriously?”

“yes!” she screams, “it just went into the bathroom! hurry!”

knowing my neighbor as i do, i grab a broom and head over, chuckling all the way. this isn’t the first time. once, it was a wasp nest. and a HUGE wasp. another time it was a bee. and more times than i can count, it’s been “help, i locked myself out of the house!”

i don’t need to live in missouri to have tornadoes in my life.

take a little trip

well, i can’t go here because of timing.

but, it looks like i WILL be going here. i haven’t even worked through all the reasoning yet. why? because the timing works out, it’s cheap, i’m curious. what do i expect? not sure. if i’m lucky, i’ll learn something new and meet some cool people. if i’m wrong, well, i still get away for a few days to a place i’ve never been. that’s cool.
