look at all these rumors

remember the telephone game we all played at least once in when we were kids? it was supposed to teach you just how rumors get twisted around. how much they change when they reach the end of the line.
i don’t like rumors. or drama. i try to avoid it when i can. oh, sometimes it’s inevitable for one reason or another. but i usually just try to ignore it. if i don’t, i’ll get too caught up in it all.
i got caught against my will this time. dragged in kicking, screaming, fingernails digging in wherever they could gain purchase. of course, that was after it snuck up on me and beaned me in the side of the head.

funny ha-ha

watching food network – caught part of a behind the scenes for emeril’s show. haven’t watched emeril in a few years. kinda got tired of him. but they were talking about the design of his new set, so i stuck around.
they showed paula deen, another food network chef, when she was a guest on emeril’s show. she’s a southern woman and i get a kick out of watching her. she was looking for something. a mallet. emeril asked why. she said, “ah lahk ta beet mah meet wheyn eet’s thayt thi-yick.” (translation from southern-speak[tm]: i like to beat my meat when it’s that thick.) i laughed so loud i startled john, who was just starting to fall asleep, in the other room. if you’ve seen paula deen before, you know she’s a bit of an edgy southern woman anyway. so the innuendo struck me as funny.
or maybe it was the wine.

some good news

after investigation, my cousin’s death was ruled an accident.
while still sad, as his children are left without a father, his wife without a partner, some of my questions go away. some still remain, but the pain is lessened just a tiny bit for now. and that was the bit of relief i needed.

Making my first post, under what I consider tragic circumstances. Thoughts and prayers are with Becky during this awful and terrible time.
I will pull some thoughts together to post in the meantime, if anyone has any requests whatsoever, drop a comment and let me know.

oh yeah, well you can take your rain and shove it up your ass

“into every life a little rain must fall.”
we’ve all heard that phrase. last night, a little more than rain fell into my life. a little good, a little bad. a little yin, a little yang. we must have joy to appreciate sadness, much like we must have sadness to appreciate joy.
j’s been looking for a motorcycle to replace his current one for a while now. last night, he found something we both could live with. have i ever mentioned how much i hate dealing with any type of auto or vehicle dealership? the whole system is made to frustrate people. but i think we did okay, in spite of spending two and a half fucking hours there. they gave us a price, we an offer, the countered, we gave our final and they accepted. it was a number we could live with and it was almost a grand less than their original offer.
right as we prepared to leave, it started raining. just our luck, right? if i could have crawled into bed to avoid what was to come, i would have.

what IS healthy?

in my health class, we’re currently studying nutrition, exercise, and weight management. according to the body mass index (bmi), i was overweight thirty pounds ago.
j scoffs at that, saying it’s ridiculous, that i was fine, that it’s all about being healthy. he’s right, it IS about being healthy.
but what is healthy?
is it a number on the chart? thirty pounds ago, i was almost midway into the overweight section for my height of 5’9″. now i’m just right of center from normal (hee, that’s another subject). but can you really judge your health by a chart?
does it mean anything – is it even accurate? what do you think about the standard height/ weight charts? do you put any stock in them?
i don’t when it comes to my health or outlook, but i’m interested in what the rest of you think about it. do you base what you think about your health on how you feel, how your body feels, discussions with your doctor, family, friends? or do you go by the recommended numbers on a chart? why?
